Impact of the Vaccination on Toxoplasmosis Mortality in Zoos

2025 Oct, MonPublications

We’re thrilled to announce our latest publication, developed in collaboration with 20 leading zoos worldwide, presenting a nasal vaccine candidate against Toxoplasma gondii.

This strategic research not only exemplifies cross-sector innovation but also targets serious human health risks, specifically ocular and congenital toxoplasmosis, which remain global challenges:
• ~ 30% of people worldwide harbor chronic T. gondii infections, with highest prevalence in Latin America and tropical regions.

• Ocular toxoplasmosis is the main cause of posterior uveitis globally, leading to vision impairment or blindness with severe outbreaks notably in South America.

• Congenital toxoplasmosis affects nearly 200,000 newborns annually worldwide, often causing often causing severe neurological and ophthalmic consequences.

Even in Europe and North America, incidence remains significant: 3 per 10,000 live births.

Importantly, the safety and efficacy results obtained in primates are promising, a true turning point toward the development of a future human vaccine against toxoplasmosis.
By bridging wildlife science and human medicine, our work propels us toward a future where preventing toxoplasmosis-associated blindness and congenital disease is within reach.

A big Thank to all our partners who believed in our technology and vaccine solutions:
