Proud to share a new testimony highlighting the impact and importance of VXN-Toxo.
VXN-Toxo is an innovative inactivated intranasal vaccine against toxoplasmosis, a globally distributed parasitic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, and a major cause of mortality among many captive species in zoological institutions worldwide.
At Fundacion Zoologica de cali (Colombia), VXN-Toxo has been successfully implemented across several species, including kangaroos, New World primates, meerkats, and lemurs, contributing to a significant reduction in the incidence of toxoplasmosis.
These field observations are consistent with recently published results demonstrating a 96.7% reduction in toxoplasmosis-associated mortality across 20 zoos worldwide, confirming the vaccine’s potential as a valuable tool for wildlife conservation. Beyond its scientific value, VXN-Toxo represents an important advance for the protection of endangered and vulnerable species, helping zoological institutions better prevent one of the most devastating parasitic diseases affecting captive wildlife.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Juliana Peña , Head of Animal Health at Fundacion Zoologica de cali, Mario H. Alves, Veterinarian, and the entire Zoo de Cali team for their trust, commitment, expertise, and outstanding collaboration. Their dedication is making a tangible difference for wildlife conservation.
